Glen Richard Trammell
Glen was born in Ruston on March 4, 1950. He graduated from Ruston High School in 1968 and attended Louisiana Tech University for two years before joining the United States Air Force in July of 1970.
After completing basic military training at Lackland AFB, TX, he was assigned to the USAF Regional Hospital, Sheppard AFB, TX where he completed 108 weeks of technical training as a Radiological Technician. His first assignment after his technical training was the USAF Hospital - Barksdale AFB, LA. Glen left the Air Force in 1974 at the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Missing the military life, Glen reenlisted in 1976 and completed 12 weeks training at the USAF Security Police Academy on Lackland AFB in San Antonio, TX. Six of his twelve weeks training was in Combat Skills and Terrorist Threat Training which included Air Base Ground Defense. His first assignment after completing training was to the 351st Security Forces Squadron, Whiteman AFB, MO. Follow-on assignments included the 8th Security Forces Squadron - Kunsan AB, Republic of South Korea and the 379th Security Forces Squadron, Wurtsmith AFB, MI.
Glen volunteered for recruiting duty in 1982 and after completing his training was assigned to the 3546 USAF Recruiting Squadron in Houston, TX. Follow-on assignments included Headquarters, USAF Recruiting Service, Randolph AFB in San Antonio, TX as a Training Consultant and finally as the Squadron Superintendent of the 3545 USAF Recruiting Squadron, St. Louis, MO.
Glen’s military decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Commendation Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Achievement Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Air Force Organizational Excellence Award, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with 5 Oak Leaf Clusters, National Defense Service Medal with 1 Bronze star, Air Force Overseas Ribbon – Short Tour, Air Force Longevity Service Award with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters, Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Military Education Ribbon with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, and the Air Force Training Ribbon.
Glen retired from the Air Force in August 1992 after 22 years’ service, returned to Louisiana Tech and completed his degree in Management Information Systems. After graduation, he was hired by ExxonMobil in Houston, TX where he worked for 17 years before retiring as a Senior Systems Analyst in 2012. Glen returned to Ruston in 2020 where he now lives with his wife Kathy.
